Flex-o-thene Plastics (Pty) Ltd. commenced business in 1971. We are a manufacturing company involved in the extrusion, printing, laminating and conversion of flexible plastic packaging material.
In 1985 Flexothene moved into bigger premises in a new modern factory in Phoenix Industrial Park. The business has grown consistently over the years and this necessitated 4 extensions to the factory. Today the factory comprises of over 15000 square metres of area under roof.
Over the years new equipment has been purchased on a regular basis which has enabled the company to remain at the forefront of technology in the plastic packaging industry.
Although Flexothene still services a broad array of markets with its products, the focus has shifted away from clothing and retail packaging to industrial packaging, mainly in the food and beverage industry. The company has concentrated on the development of sophisticated materials for automatic packaging lines and on achieving high quality printing. In order to keep up with the latest innovations and technology in the industry, new equipment and machinery has been added on a regular basis.
The acquisition of a co-extrusion line in 1995 enabled the production of three layer films and further expanded this focus of specialised films and applications. Co-extrusion capacity has further increased throughout the years with the most recent addition being a 5 layer line commissioned in 2018. In 1998 the company acquired its first 8 colour flexographic printer to broaden its markets. Similar to the extrusion department, printing capacity has increased throughout the years and most recently in 2019 with the addition of another technologically advanced 8 colour flexographic printer. Flexothene now has multiple flexographic printing presses (up to 10 colours), an 8 colour rotogravure press and state-of-the-art bagging, slitting and laminating machines.
Flexothene services a wide array of customers, from small independents to large multinationals such as Coca-Cola, Sasol, Procter & Gamble and RCL foods.
The company complies with world class manufacturing and hygiene standards. To this end Flexothene has ISO 9001 accreditation and ISO 22000 accreditation. Furthermore, Flexothene complies with the requirements for Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) status.
Flexothene is still a privately owned company run by a dedicated management team with strong emphasis on technical support and service.
We remain yours in packaging.
